Exeter Maths School set a challenge for any Y6s in Somerset, Devon or Dorset this summer. It was to produce a poster explaining “How to win at battleships”. Many games later, and after a lot of careful analysis of different strategies for placing your ships and where to fire at your opponent, 6Germain created some fabulous posters, showing off their understanding of statistics, presentation of data and problem- solving skills. We are delighted to say that Exeter Maths School have given a special mention to Alexis and Rowan (very creative use of
statistics), Emma (good data collection), and Patrick’s poster was crowned the overall winner. Here are the judges’ comments - “Very well laid out with an eye-catching drawing. Also had a focus on strategies for placing ships as well as data from games, which was a balance that made it stand out from the rest.” We are very proud of all Germain’s entries – and of the great contributions in lessons and at home in devising the best ways to collect data (Samuel, Ella), analyse the results (Isla) and draw sensible conclusions (Henry, Rowan). Just don’t take any of them on in a game of battleships!
