Welcome to Oakfield!
Our pupils enjoy an inspirational learning environment and benefit from creative staff, wonderful facilities and beautiful grounds situated next to open countryside.
We educate children aged between 9 -13 years old and you can find us on the edge of the Mendip Hills, overlooking the medieval market town of Frome.
The ability to deliver a seamless transfer and heartfelt welcome for year 4 pupils arriving into year 5 has earned Oakfield an enduring reputation as a friendly and encouraging community. The academy also aims to ensure our year 8 pupils also experience a smooth transfer to Frome Community College, confident and fully prepared.
At Oakfield we educate to the highest standard, within an atmosphere that facilitates academic progression and encourages creative expression.

The History of Oakfield
Oakfield has educated the children of Frome and surrounding villages since 1941. Mr R A Butler (the late Lord Butler, Minister of Education at the time) officially opened the first Oakfield School; which was Frome’s first co-educational, comprehensive community day school. Pictured below are some sport teams and members of staff, led by Headteacher Mr F E Bell.
In 1973 the school changed from being a secondary modern comprehensive to a middle school; which catered for 9-13 year old pupils.
